ADNOC, Borealis mull partial IPO for Abu Dhabi’s polymers major Borouge
Borouge’s owners, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria’s Borealis, are considering launching a partial initial public offering (IPO) on the stock exchange for the Abu Dhabi major polymers joint venture.
Borouge has the capacity to produce more than 4m tonnes/year of polymers, including several grades of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), with most of the product sent to overseas markets in Asia.
In December, Borouge said it would go ahead with a $6.2bn expansion at the facilities, aiming to take production capacities to 6.4m tonnes/year by 2025.
ADNOC holds a 60% stake in Borouge; Borealis – now majority owned by Austria’s energy major OMV – holds the remaining 40%.
The two companies did not disclose a potential schedule for the partial IPO, nor financial details.
“Borealis and ADNOC are considering a potential initial public offering (IPO) of a minority stake in their joint venture Borouge … Borealis and ADNOC will provide further material updates as and when appropriate,” the two companies said.
