Japan’s Feb chemical exports rise by 19.8%, total shipments up 19.1%
Japan’s chemical exports rose by 19.8% year on year in February to Yen (Y) 913.4bn, supporting the overall increase in shipments abroad, official data showed on Wednesday.
Exports of organic chemicals rose by 32.3% year on year to Y179.7bn in February while shipments of plastic materials were up by 17.4% at Y254.7bn, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
On a volume basis, exports of plastic materials rose by 4.5% year on year to 479,071 tonnes in February.
Japan’s total exports rose by 19.1% year on year to Y7.19 trillion (tr) in February while imports were up by 34% at 7.86tr.
This resulted in a February trade deficit of around Y670bn, versus the surplus of Y175.9bn in February 2021.
Year on year in February, shipments to the US were up by 16%.
