TotalEnergies earnings triple to EUR 9bn on record LNG sales
French energy company TotalEnergies saw its Q1 adjusted net income triple year on year to EUR 9bn amid record high LNG spot sales, it said on Thursday.
The company achieved a “very good performance in gas, LNG and trading activities”, with sales of the chilled fuel jumping 34% to 13.3m tonnes (18.4bcm), it added in its latest financial report for the January-March period.
The increase in earnings came despite the announcement of a EUR 4.1bn impairment charges on its Arctic LNG 2 project.
The average selling price for LNG was up 4%, to USD 13.60/MMbtu, benefiting from the increase in oil and gas indexes on long-term contracts and the high spot prices in the quarter, it added.
The company expected its average LNG selling price would remain “at a high level above USD 14/MMbtu” in the second quarter, with commodities prices surging amid the warand continued concerns about supply.
Renewables growth
TotalEnergies also grew its installed renewable power generation capacity by 37% year on year to 10.7 GW in Q1.
Net power production increased 61%, compared to January-March last year, to 7.6 TWh, due to a higher utilisation rate of gas-fired plants, as well as increased power generation form renewable sources, the group said.
A total 10.6 GW of the company’s renewable capacity was installed via power purchase agreements – up 3 GW year on year – with an average price of EUR 99/MWh, varying from EUR 150/MWh in North America and EUR 146/MWh in Europe to EUR 79/MWh in Asia.
